Inciweb

A new team will take over management of the Jack Fire east of Glide in Douglas County, this week. It has burned 17,994 acres and was 50 % contained as of Monday afternoon.

Bernie Pineda is a public information officer for the Jack Fire.

He said when the new team takes over, the current crews will get a couple days off and then it’s back to work on another fire.

“We have nine teams and currently we have all nine of them out,” Pineda said. “There is no teams available. So it’s going to be a busy, long season.”

Highway 138 has reopened in the fire area with a slower speed limit of 45 miles per hour. Closures remain in effect in the Umpqua National Forest.

Smoke from the fire is highly visible from Oregon State Highway 140, Sprague River Highway, Chiloquin and the surrounding area. Drivers should expect increased traffic in the area from fire equipment and are asked to use caution driving in the area. There is an emergency closure in place to public access/entry due to hazards and hazardous conditions created as a result of the Bootleg Fire - details are on the closures page. Level 2 and 3 evacuations are in place.
