"Day of Play" Sunday To Check Out Civic Park In Eugene

Rachael McDonald

Community members can play on the newly laid turf at civic park in Eugene this Sunday. The former Civic Stadium site is being transformed into a public sports venue.

The Eugene Civic Alliance broke ground on the park just over a year ago. They’re inviting the public for a “Day of Play” Sunday to give people a taste of project’s potential.

“This will be a chance for the community to see just all the possibilities of sports and activities that will potentially be taking place at Civic Park, both in the field house and on the field.”

Bridget Franek is with Eugene Civic Alliance. She says the event is also a fundraiser. The organization is still 5 million dollars short of its goal for the first phase of construction. The turf field has been laid and work is continuing on the field house. Franek says they plan to have the first phase done in April.

The Day of Play at Civic Park is Sunday, October 20th from 1-4 p.m. at 2077 Willamette Street in Eugene.
