Eugene Public Library Offers Service To Support Parents Reading To Children

http://www.imaginationlibrary.com/

The Eugene Public Library is participating in a program aimed at supporting parents to read to their children. Friday, the library announced it's affiliation with The Dolly Parton Imagination Library.

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library launched in 1995 and has since expanded outside the U.S. to Canada and the U.K. Once parents enroll on the Library's website, their child will receive a book in the mail once a month until the child is 5. Registration comes if free for families. Connie Bennett is Eugene's Library Services Director. She says the affiliation comes at no cost to taxpayers.

Bennett: "This is a huge commitment by the Eugene Public Library Foundation. One of the donors that they've secured is the Peace Health Pediatrics Group. This ties in with the American Pediatrics Association recommendation that reading to children from infancy, until at least, they enter school is of critical importance for child development."

A group of librarians affiliated with the Dolly Parton Foundation select the books that are sent out.
