The City of Eugene plans to build a new two-way bikeway along High Street in the downtown. It will connect the Amazon Path to the Riverbank path.
City Transportation Planner Reed Dunbar said the goal is to create a safe and accessible travel option for pedestrians and cyclists between south Eugene and the Willamette River.
“There’s this idea that has been around for a few decades called the ridgeline to riverfront path connection,” Dunbar said. “Which would allow folks to either walk or bike from the riverbank path all the way down to the ridgeline path.”
Portions of that connection are already complete in south Eugene. Dunbar said the High Street project is the result of their Central Eugene in Motion study that looked at how people move through downtown. The two-way bikeway on High Street will look a lot like the one that was recently added to 13th Avenue.

The design and engineering process is underway. The bikeway will be constructed in 2022.
The High Street Bikeway, a two-way protected bike lane, will include:
• Installation of a two-way bikeway on High Street (19th Avenue to 6th Avenue)
• Removal of one travel lane on High Street (19th Avenue to 11th Avenue)
• Removal of parking on some blocks of High Street (11th Avenue to 6th Avenue)
• Bike signals at all existing traffic signals
• Updated bike wayfinding signage
• Connection to the 13th Avenue Bikeway (linking the University of Oregon to Downtown)
• Connection to the Amazon Path and Riverbank Path (linking to the new Downtown Riverfront Development)
