A Lane County man who came home last week from a cruise ship under quarantine in a Cambodian port has been the object of shunning and criticism on social media. But, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention Friday confirmed none of the crew or passengers on the cruise ship Westerdam ever had coronavirus.
Comedian Frank King, of Leaburg, told KLCC he was given the green light by CDC and customs agents to leave Cambodia. He bought a ticket and flew to Seattle and then Eugene. King says he has experienced shaming and threats on social media since returning to Oregon amidst the cruise ship chaos.
King was part of the entertainment crew on the M.S. Westerdam. It was scheduled to disembark in Shanghai in early February but coronavirus fears forced changes. No one on board had symptoms, but multiple ports refused to allow the ship entry until Cambodia finally did last weekend.
CDC’s Richard Quartarone said Friday “all the passengers were tested and they have come back negative for coronavirus, including the person who initially tested positive.”
The CDC statements are to assuage continued concerns for and “public shunning” of those who were aboard the ship and have since returned home.
