The City of Springfield’s investigation into the police department’s use of force is almost complete.
Since Oct., an external investigator has been looking into the Springfield police department’s use of force during a protest in late Jul. Investigator Rick Braziel has been analyzing the events leading up to the afternoon when SPD officers dragged, hit and tased Black Unity supporters.
Braziel was initially scheduled to be on contract with the city through Jan. 31, but he has requested more time to complete his report. He expects to have it complete by the end of this month. The conclusion of the investigation will include a summary of his findings and recommendations for the city and SPD to address potential policy issues.
Public Information Officer Amber Fossen said the City of Springfield will discuss next steps after the conclusion of the investigation.
