Oregon Gov. Kate Brown and other state officials say they're determined to get students back in the classroom this year. They’re asking for the public’s help to curb COVID-19 by following recommended advisories.
Oregon Health and Science University’s Dr. Dana Braner said the return to in person school is essential.
“Not only for our children’s education but for their physical and mental health as well,” he said during a Tuesday morning press conference. “In 32 years I have never seen a mental health crisis the likes of which I am seeing daily here."
Braner said the public has all the tools available to combat the spread COVID-19 in schools and that includes getting vaccinated if eligable and wearing a mask when possible.
The also governor once again called on Oregonians to get the vaccine to help keep kids safe. Health officials predict a decrease in the spread of COVID-19 in the coming weeks, but that depends on whether precautions are followed.
