Eugene-based Marley's Monsters puts the fun in functional. The company, which sells washable, reusable items, has a grand opening in its new retail and studio space Saturday.
At Marley's Monsters, shoppers can watch colorful fabrics become products on the shelves.
Dooley: "With all the things that are being made overseas and how we're losing that sense of creation with our hands, it's nice to be able to see it where it's made."

Owner Sarah Dooley opened an Etsy store six years ago when her daughter Marley was born. She started with a stuffed monster. That didn't sell, but it gave the company its name:
Dooley: "Then I started making more useful things like cloth wipes."
Making products to reduce waste in a playful way proved to be a hit. They added many more items including washable sponges and food storage bags, and doubled in size twice last year. The company tries to reduce its own waste as well. They donate all their scraps. Marley's Monsters' Grand Opening takes place Saturday from 12-4 at their 6th street location.
