Pet lovers in Oregon could soon be able to show their support for spay and neuter programs with a new license plate.
The specialty plate would feature a playful cat and dog against a green backdrop of mountains. The phrase “Oregon Loves Its Pets” would appear on the bottom.
The $40 extra charge for having the plate would go to the Willamette Animal Guild, a Eugene non-profit that offers low cost spay and neuter services. The Oregon DMV will only produce the plates if the Guild is able to sell three-thousand vouchers. People interested in purchasing a voucher need to contact Willamette Animal Guild directly. At this point in the process, the Oregon DMV is not accepting applications for the plate.
The organization’s president, Misha English, said after the initial run, the upcharge for the plate will go toward animal care programs statewide. “These monies will be used to make grants available to other Oregon organizations that support low cost spay and neuter services,” she said.
The Willamette Animal Guild opened in 2008, and English said the clinic has performed nearly 60,000 spay and neuter surgeries.
