Protestors In Eugene Call Impeachment Trial A "Sham"

Melorie Begay/KLCC News

In response to President Donald Trump’s acquittal, more than 80 protestors attended a rally at the federal courthouse in Eugene, on Wednesday. They aimed their frustration at U.S. Congressional Republicans.

Although rally goers were disappointed with the trial’s outcome, they have their sights set on upcoming elections.

“Up until November, I’ll be encouraging people to unseat the GOP senators that decided that corruption was okay with them,” said Gabrielle Raviollo, an Indivisible Eugene organizer. She adds the rally was coordinated as a rapid response to news of Trumps acquittal.

“I am mourning the death of democracy. I saw a sham trial take place. I saw crony capitalism take over our county. And I’m extremely disgusted, and very upset,” she said.

While most Republican Senators faced heavy backlash from protesters, there was one GOP senator who didn’t, Utah Sen. Mitt Romney. He was praised by a speaker for his bipartisanship vote for impeachment.
