For many it may seem that life is heading back to normal after Lane County met the vaccination metrics to move to Low risk for COVID-19 restrictions. However, the future is uncertain for the unvaccinated.
Lane County Public Health officials now say the unvaccinated part of the population may allow for continued spread and more severe impacts of the disease.
The county has reached a vax rate of just under 60% of the overall population. Spokesperson Jason Davis said the downside is the severe effects of COVID on those who can’t or won’t get vaccinated.
“Currently the majority of our people in the hospital are unvaccinated. And everybody in the ICU are unvaccinated. And the last eight deaths that we’ve had are individuals that have been unvaccinated.”
The newest death in the county is an unvaccinated person in their 20’s. Davis wants to be clear: vaccines are plentiful at small vax clinics throughout the county.
