Revamped Web Site Makes Oregon Plant Identification More Accessible

Oregon Flora

A website devoted to plants native to Oregon has re-launched in an attempt to be more user-friendly.

The oregonflora.org website has a database of more than 47-hundred plants that grow in the wild in Oregon. The site is a project of Oregon Flora, an organization based at Oregon State University.

Oregon Flora says its website has been around for about 15 years, but until this overhaul it was geared more towards plant experts.  Now, the site has a searchable database of more than 46,000 photos of plants in Oregon, including tools to identify plants that users encounter in the wild.

The website can also offer advice on what native plants to use in gardens or landscaping projects.

Chris Lehman has been reporting on Oregon issues since 2006. He joined the KLCC news department in December 2018 and became News Director in March 2023. Chris was born and raised in Pennsylvania, and graduated from Temple University with a degree in journalism. His public broadcasting career includes stops in Louisiana and Illinois. Chris has filed for national programs including “Morning Edition” and “All Things Considered.”
