Shift In Winds Helps With Echo Mountain Complex Fire Near Lincoln City

Lincoln County

Fire officials say a shift in the wind direction helped crews fight the Echo Mountain Complex fire near Lincoln City.

The blaze is still zero percent contained and is nearly 25-hundred acres.

Much of northern Lincoln City and the nearby town of Otis are still under a Level 3 evacuation, but officials say some residents may be allowed to return home by Thursday evening.

That will depend on whether crews can restore power, including to the Lincoln City Hospital. Updates to evacuation levels will be posted to the county's website.

The primary evacuation site continues to be the Newport Rec Center in Newport. Highway 101 in northern Lincoln City, as well as Highway 18 just east of Lincoln City, remained closed as of Thursday afternoon.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Officials have not said how many structures have been destroyed by the Echo Mountain Complex fires.
