Starting Saturday, LTD will be Fare-Free and Move to Reduced Service

Lane Transit District

On Saturday, Lane Transit District will instrument additional changes in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. These changes will be in effect until further notice.

LTD will provide Sunday-level bus service on Saturdays and Sundays; and a modified Saturday-level of service Monday through Friday.

They also announced that bus service will be free to all passengers. Riders will enter and exit the bus from its rear doors. Older adults and people with disabilities can still access the bus’s front door.

In a LTD press release Thursday evening, LTD general manager Aurora Jackson explained why they are making these changes.

“Making bus service free eliminates the need to linger during boarding and unnecessary interaction between bus operators and passengers where exposure to the coronavirus could easily be shared,” said Jackson.

Route 92 Lowell and Route 96 Coburg will also have limited service Monday through Friday. Jackson said the updated service adjustments are to reduce potential coronavirus exposure to bus operators and passengers.

“We know that this service level transition is a change to what LTD announced earlier in the week, but like so many organizations, the District’s response to COVID-19 coronavirus changes based on information from health authorities and available resources,” said Jackson.

LTD’s RideSource ADA service will now operate from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Saturdays. The RideSource Shopper has been suspended until further notice.

LTD is encouraging riders to only use transportation for essential trips.

“While LTD has increased its cleaning efforts, we recommend that people only ride the bus when their trip is absolutely necessary,” said Jackson.

In the press release, LTD said they are working to credit riders with bus passes.

“LTD will address how to ensure pass-holders are provided value for their pre-purchased fare, and we will be communicating that process as it is developed in the coming days,” said Jackson.

LTD’s administrative offices in Glenwood and the Customer Service Counter at the Eugene Station are closed. If you have questions for the administrative team, you should call 541-682-6101. Customer service questions can be answered by calling 541-687-5555.

LTD has also cancelled all scheduled public meetings until further notice. LTD’s Board of Directors and executive team are exploring broadcasting solutions so upcoming public meetings can continue remotely.
