Three Fatalities Confirmed In Oregon Fires

Bureau of Land Management

Two people are now confirmed dead in the Santiam Fire east of Salem.

Marion County Sheriff Joe Kast announced the deaths Wednesday afternoon.

According to a Facebook post by the Enchanted Forest Theme Park near Salem, the fatalities are a 12-year-old boy and his grandmother. The boy is the great-grandson of the park’s founder.

In southern Oregon, the Jackson County Sheriff’s office has confirmed one death as a result of the Almeda Fire, which tore through parts of Ashland, Talent and Phoenix.

Oregon Governor Kate Brown said earlier Wednesday that the death toll statewide will likely exceed any the state has seen from wildfires in its history.
