In honor of National Coming Out Day, the University of Oregon will be celebrating LGBTQ members and allies with a festival.
Haley Wilson, UO LGBT Education and Support Services coordinator, says it’s important to celebrate someone’s honesty with themselves, and their loved ones, about their identity.
“Acknowledging that coming out can happen all across the life span, and even if you are out, you could be coming out about using different pronouns or using a different name or coming to terms with a different experience that you have," said Wilson. "So I think there are a lot of ways you can celebrate it.”
Co-sponsored with the LGBTQA3 Student Alliance, Wilson says the festival will include LGBTQ resource booths, as well as crafts, history displays, a bouncy course, and a coming out door.
UO’s National Coming Out Day Festival is open to the public, and will be held Friday, Oct. 11, from 11:00am to 3:00pm on the Erb Memorial Union Green.
