The Oregon Health Authority reported 20 new deaths and 3,268 new confirmed and presumptive cases of COVID-19 over the weekend. Saturday’s record-breaking numbers were attributed to delayed reporting from the Thanksgiving holiday when many county health departments were closed, but it still represents the surge in cases seen in November.
905 Oregonians have died of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and 74,120 have been infected.
The deaths announced over the weekend include a 62-year-old woman in Douglas County, a 62-year-old man in Lane County, a 69-year-old woman in Linn County, and an 87-year-old man in Deschutes County.
The new cases include 142 in Deschutes County, 108 in Lane County, 39 in Linn County, 24 in Benton County, 19 in Douglas County, and 9 in Lincoln County.
The number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients across Oregon increased to 539 over the weekend while the number of covid-19 patients in Intensive Care Unit beds rose to 107.
In Sunday’s release of the newest cases and deaths, the OHA says the way to honor the more than 900 Oregonians who have lost their lives to COVID-19 is to “redouble efforts to protect one another.” They remind everyone to wear a mask, limit social gatherings, keep 6 feet between you and other people who don’t live in your home, and wash hands often.
