This week on Eye 5, KLCC’s independent music program, after taking a full trip around the sun Khruangbin and Leon Bridges explore the vibes of the Texas Moon. We’ll also hear new music from indie titans Superchunk and the sprawling music collective Broken Social Scene dig up some true treasures from their vaults.

This week I feature a set of music from the Austin, TX label Keeled Scales.
There are lots of gems to discover, and The Deer are set to play the WOW Hall on Saturday, January 1.

I was up late one night listening to PRX Remix on KLCC. If you're not familiar it's a surprising patchwork of sounds from the Radiotopia podcast network and various independent producers. It's like freeform radio with experimental podcasts. You never know what you'll hear and as I was listening, an episode of Song Exploder came on featuring Lucy Dacus. It was outstanding.

Finally, if you want to treat yourself to some truly unusual music for the winter season, check out this compilation titled Last Winter We Didn't Sing. It was released under the care and consideration of Lars Gotrich's label Thor's Rubber Hammer. It's contemplative, hypnotic, and somber.

On a related note: NPR Music is prepping what seems to be the most strange and unusual holiday celebration around.

Eye 5 can be heard on radios all across western and central Oregon Friday nights 8:00-10:00 and Saturdays 3:00-5:00 on KLCC.

Jason Brown joined KLCC as Program Director on January 30, 2019. Most recently Brown was Operations Director at KRCU in Cape Girardeau MO, and host of the music show Left of the Dial.
