39 Ducks Will Compete At NCAA Track & Field Championships In Eugene

Eric Evans/GoDucks.com

Oregon schools sent dozens of athletes to the NCAA Western Preliminaries in Arkansas over the weekend, hoping to qualify for the national championships happening in Eugene in less than two weeks.  Perennial track and field powerhouse, the University of Oregon, qualified 39 individuals for the finals – 20 women and 19 men.

Both Oregon squads are ranked 3rd in the country, and both have a shot at the National Team Championship.  800m star Laura Roesler is the top western qualifier in her event, as is sprinter Jenna Prandini in both the 100m and long jump.  The Ducks also have the top qualifying time in the women’s 4x400 relay.   On the men’s side of things Sam Crouser qualified in first position in the javelin.

No Other Oregon schools were successful in advancing individuals to the finals, with the exception of the University of Portland.  Sophomore Tansey Lystad will compete in the steeplechase in Eugene.

The NCAA Championships run June 11-14 at Hayward Field.
