Do the men of Oregon have a shot at an NCAA cross-country title Saturday? A coach and an athlete say it's possible.
Eugene is known as Track Town USA for a reason. At the University of Oregon, 20 of the 21 NCAA sports titles have been from (indoor and outdoor) track and field and cross-country. Although they aren't favored, the Duck men's team *could add to that count Saturday. Head Coach Robert Johnson:
Johnson: "I like our chances for our men's team. I think we have six, seven guys that are definitely committed to run for each other and I think that's definitely going to bode well for us this weekend."
Freshman Edward Cheserek will likely finish first for the Ducks. He won the Pac-12 race as well as last weekend's NCAA West Regional Championships. Senior Mac Fleet says Cheserek's season has been incredible:
Fleet: "He has a potential to be top five this weekend, I believe."
The women go into the meet ranked 17 in NCAA Division 1.
The Duck men and women race Saturday morning in Terre Haute Indiana.
