Oregon State has fired coach Trent Bray after the team fell to 0-7, its worst start since 1991. Athletic director Scott Barnes announced the decision on Sunday. Robb Akey will serve as interim head coach for the rest of the season while a national search for Bray's successor is conducted. Barnes expressed gratitude for Bray's dedication but cited unacceptable on-field results as the reason for the change. The decision followed a 39-14 loss to Wake Forest on Saturday. The school said Bray’s contract buyout will be covered by donor-generated funds.

Paul Allen’s estate has formally reached an agreement to sell the Portland Trail Blazers to a group of investors led by Carolina Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon. Dundon announced a tentative deal last month to buy the team and keep it in Portland. Terms were not disclosed. The NBA Board of Governors has to ratify any final purchase agreement. ESPN previously reported that the deal was for $4 billion. The sale is expected to close by the end of this year.

Oregon’s starting quarterbacks have recently been seasoned upperclassmen with loads of experience. Bo Nix played a pair of seasons with the Ducks after transferring from Auburn and Dillon Gabriel helmed the team after two years at Oklahoma. Now it’s Dante Moore’s turn, but his path has been a bit different. Moore is the presumed starter for the No. 7 Ducks, although Austin Novosad and Luke Moga have also been in the mix during preseason camp. Lanning is expected to name a starter next week ahead of the team’s opener against Montana State at Autzen Stadium.

The Trump administration is investigating the Oregon Department of Education after receiving a complaint from a conservative non-profit group alleging the state was violating civil rights law by allowing transgender girls to compete on girls sports teams. The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights opened the investigation based on a complaint saying high-school aged female athletes in the state had lost medals and other competitive opportunities to transgender athletes. The probe is the latest escalation in the Republican administration’s effort to bar transgender athletes from women’s sports teams nationwide.
