Update: The Oregon team beat LSU in match play today [Tuesday].
Oregon sophomore Aaron Wise is the first Duck to win the NCAA Golf Championship. He closed with a 1-over 71 Monday, winning by two shots at Eugene Country Club.
Wise also became the first player from the host school to win a national championship since Gary Hallberg at Wake Forest in 1979. Wise is planning to go professional following this week's competition. He spoke with the golf channel Monday.
"Knowing this is my last event in front of my teammates, my family and my friends, it's hard." Wise said. "You know, my family came up just because this was my last event. All that brings pressure, being on your home course and everything. There's a ton of pressure on me today and I was happy with the way I was able to calm down before the round and, you know, go out there and execute.
The Ducks are still in the running for the team title. They're among 8 teams that advanced to match play. They face LSU this [Tuesday] morning.
