A local golf pro is headed to the LPGA Senior Women’s Championship in Connecticut. The tournament starts Thursday.
Debby King is a retired touring professional. She teaches golf at her company, Kingdom of Golf, and at Emerald Valley Golf Course in Creswell. She formerly managed Laurelwood Golf Course in Eugene.
After about seven attempts to make a major open tournament, this is King’s first, and a dream come true.
“You know, my game is pretty darn good,” King said. “I’m fortunate that it’s catching me at the right time. I’m striking the ball real well. I just have to hope I can control the nerves.”
King said she’s nervous and excited to see old friends and play alongside big names, like Annika Sorenstam.
“Just hope and pray,” King said. “My goal is to make the cut. So we’ll see what happens!”
