Man says he was behind some of the viral googly eyes on public art in Oregon

A resident of the Bend says he was the person behind some of the googly eyes that appeared on sculptures around the city in recent months and sparked a viral sensation widely covered by news outlets.

City leaders would like whoever placed the eyes to stop defacing public art.

A new labor mural, created by artist Alejandro Sarmientio, will be dedicated on Sept. 8 in Springfield. It's a new envisioning of the original mural, created in 2001 by Alison McNair, which is being lost to building construction and renovation at the old site. This last scene of the mural depicts rallying and advocacy, freedoms that are built on the back of all the past work spanning decades that's depicted in the other panels. It is meant to represent the future of labor, and show that what's going to charge workers forward is continuing to advocate and rally together.

When a construction project began destroying the Jesse Bostelle Memorial Mural in Springfield, labor leaders spearheaded the commission of a new, reimagined version of the mural nearby.
