ArtSpark Virtual Gala & Auction Dec. 4

Lane Arts Council

This is Sandy Brown Jensen, and you’re listening to Viz City, KLCC’s arts review program! We are currently still COVID lockdown through Dec. 4, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t virtual art fun to be had. I turn your attention to Eugene ArtSpark 2020. ArtSpark funds arts education in schools.

This year, their big online gala will start December 4 at 6:00 pm with a live auction, the great auctioneer Sid Voorhees presiding and Tracy Berry hosting.

There is also a silent auction which opens November 30th and closes December 7th. You can already preview the auction items online. Yes, there are beach getaways and a sailboat ride on Odell Lake and golf at the Running Y, but the truly high value items in terms of an investment that will accrue value over time are hand-crafted furniture, sculpture, and paintings.

I would draw your attention to a nine-foot tempered glass-topped coffee table by Tim Forester. The four bronze legs in a double drop shape are what makes it remarkable. Forester says he visualizes a drop of water descending from the heavens. As the drop descends, the shape is transformed into a universal and one of a kind shape--and cast in bronze by Tim. This highly sculptural table with the double-drop bronze legs sets on a platform reflecting that unusual and graceful shape and is made of exotic hardwoods.

Many high end paintings by some of the area’s top-flight artists are in the auction, as well, including Robert Canaga, Margaret Coe, Susan Palmer, and wonderful pieces by ArtSpark students as well.

As you are taking advantage of Black Friday deals, save a part of your heart and your budget to support art education for students at the ArtSpark Virtual Gala and Auction. More at artsparkeugene.org
