Kitchen Céilí Workshop
Kitchen Céilí Workshop
The Frolicking Meese and Blackthorn Academy of Irish Dance are thrilled to announce our first workshop and guest instructor: Kitchen Céilí with Brian Ó hAirt!
Imagine you and your friends are hanging out in the kitchen, dodging around the cook and the open oven, sampling the cooking sherry. Then, someone strikes up a reel and your feet start tapping…
Irish kitchen dances are fun, informal, spirited dances that folks could easily dance in the confines of a kitchen. They are two-person dances done to a variety of tune types such as reels, hornpipes, flings, and waltzes. Come learn a half dozen of these dances at a workshop aimed at building an awareness of rhythm, footwork, posture, and context for Ireland's lesser-known vernacular dances.
Brian Ó hAirt is a singer, dancer, musician and Irish language teacher out of the Portland area. We are very excited to have him come down to Eugene and share his expertise with us!
This workshop is beginner friendly. No partner or dance experience required. All ages welcome. Dancers 14 and under should be accompanied by a responsible adult. Bring a water bottle and comfortable shoes!
