Splendor and Loss: New Works by Satoko Motouji

Satoko Motouji was born and raised in Kyoto, Japan, and came to the United States to study visual art. Her main interest as an artist has been the transient nature of all existence. She honors the process of art making by using media such as sumi ink, handmade paper and watercolor. Satoko emphasizes the importance of maintaining a tactile relationship with the world around us.
With a Bachelor's Degree in Art History from the University of Oregon and an MFA in Painting from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Satoko was on the art faculty at Lane Community College. She is now a full-time artist. Her art has been exhibited throughout Oregon and in California, Massachusetts, Florida, Japan and Italy.
