Springfield Police Chief Placed On Leave

Springfield Police Chief Rick Lewis has been placed on administrative leave while the city conducts an administrative personnel investigation.

The city has not provided any details on the nature of the investigation. Lewis has been with SPD since 1982. He was promoted to acting chief in 2016 and then chief of police in 2017. Lt. Matt Neiwert will serve as acting chief while Lewis is on leave.
