Springfield Police say their investigation into the death of Richard Marshall led them to Reedsport Tuesday.
Marshall, 70, was found dead of apparent homicide on March 1st at the Food for Lane County Youth Farm, where he was a caretaker.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s office, authorities made a traffic stop at Winchester Avenue and Highway 101 Tuesday evening in Reedsport. There were two people in the vehicle and one of them became combative. The negotiation team was brought in and a standoff went on for several hours, closing Highway 101 into the late evening. A sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a suspect, ending the standoff. It’s unclear if the suspect in Marshall’s death was killed and who the other occupant of the vehicle was. No names have yet been released, but Springfield Police say they are no longer seeking a suspect in his murder.
