People troubled by the destruction and suffering caused by the Chetco Bar Fire in southwestern Oregon -- and Hurricane Harvey in Texas -- can help.
The American Red Cross-Cascades Region is calling for volunteers, Spokeswoman Monique Dugaw says they’re fast-tracking their response to both disasters.
"We want to mobilize people as quickly as possible," Dugaw says. "If you’re able to attend those trainings, it could be a week or less before you’re actually deployed.

"Right now we’re focusing our resources on the Chetco Bar Wildfire, and preparing for deployment activity to Harvey.”
As for blood donations, Dugaw says the Red Cross collected and sent blood to Houston-area hospitals prior to Harvey’s arrival, so they’re well-stocked. But there’s always a need for blood in more than 40 hospitals and clinics in the Cascades region, so donations are always welcome.
A Red Cross volunteer meeting is happening in Medford tomorrow. Otherwise, people can sign up at http://redcross.org/volunteer
