Weather Conditions Remain Critical in Lane County

Karen Richards

Air quality in western Lane County remains at Very Unhealthy levels today due to smoke and ash from several wildfires.

"The good news is," said Will Ahue, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service,  "because smoke is going to be pretty thick from these fires, temperatures aren’t going to be as hot as they would have been without the smoke. Temperatures today are only going to get into the 80s and we will continue to see north-northeast winds gusting 15 to 20 miles per hour through the day, but they will weaken as we go through this evening and into tonight.”

Ahue said winds are forecasted to return to a normal, westerly flow late Thursday, which should help clear skies in the Willamette Valley. However, smoke will then push into communities east of the fires. Ahue said conditions remain critical through this (Wednesday) evening and perhaps into Thursday, and he advised people to follow precautions from local authorities.
