The death toll from a series of wildfires around the state is now at ten.
Oregon Gov. Kate Brown said Monday she expects that number to rise.
While the wind that drove the rapid growth of the fires last week has subsided, Brown said Oregon is still a long way from recovery. “The smoke blanketing the state is a constant reminder that this tragedy has not yet come to an end,” she said.
Forecasters say it could be Thursday before most Oregonians notice a significant improvement in air quality. Until then, public health officials are warning residents to stay inside as much as possible.
