The City of Eugene and Eugene Water and Electric Board have finalized a deal for 16-acres of riverfront property.
The utility sold it to the city for $5.8 million in urban renewal funds. Eugene City Manager John Ruiz says the effort to acquire the property has been in the works for more than a decade. “From our perspective and the community’s perspective it just helps to fulfill a generational vision and dream of better connecting the river to downtown and other parts of the community,” Ruiz says.

Eugene is working with Portland developer Williams and Dame on plans for a multi-use neighborhood on the property along the Willamette River. It would include housing, shops, restaurants and a 3-acre park.
