Local Libraries Begin To Re-open Services

City of Springfield

As counties across Oregon continue to re-open, so do local libraries. KLCC’s Aubrey Bulkeley found out how some are adapting to new restrictions.

As with most COVID-19 operations, things take longer. According to Emily David, Director of Springfield Public Library, books being returned go through a quarantine process before being checked out again. Volunteers also help process books, but now only four employees work in the library at a time.

“It feels like we turn a corner and figure something out and then there’s five questions that come out of that.”

Depending on the size of operations, some libraries have started services earlier than others. Springfield began book pick-ups last week along with Newport’s public library. Eugene is starting next week.

According to David, Springfield library’s first week of curbside pick-up was a success - over 150 patrons in the first few days.
