Restaurants nationwide have struggled during the pandemic. La Perla Pizzeria is no exception. The downtown Eugene restaurant announced on their FaceBook page Dec. 14 they will be closing their doors at the end of December.
La Perla Pizzeria by Beppe and Gianni opened 12 years ago. Server Tyler Schneider has been with the restaurant since 2008.
“Especially for me who’s been here for as long as I have, it’s hard to think about, you know, working in the building and having it be a completely new environment,” said Schneider. “There’s just a lot of memories attached to being in the space for so long, but it is nice to have the opportunity to still have a job. ”
The announcement stated, “Despite all our efforts, the Covid pandemic was a hurdle that proved to be too difficult.”
The building will be taken over by new owners. Current staff have the option to stay on and details are being worked out to keep a few La Perla favorites on the menu.
