The Eugene 4J School District has approved new standard school schedules and consistent calendars that will go into effect this fall.
The Eugene School Board approved the final schedule parameters last night. This follows more than a year of negotiations. Thousands of parents, teachers, students and community members participated in the sometimes fraught discussions.
Currently, each 4J school has its own schedule, with different start and end times; different early-release and late-start schedules; different no-school days; and different amounts of instruction time.
The idea behind a standardized schedule is to provide enough instruction to meet state standards and equal learning time for all students. Now, schools at each level will have consistent start and end times and the same early-release days for staff planning and professional development.
