The Eugene 4J School District has extended their deadline for community members to weigh in on how new state funding should be used to increase academic achievement.
Starting next school year, the Student Success Act is expected to provide each Oregon public district, and eligible charter schools, with more money. 4J will get about $12 million per year, which is about 5 percent of their current general fund.
At the last school board meeting, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Charis McGaughysaid the funds will increase instruction time and address mental health and social emotional learning needs, among other improvements.
“Decreasing class sizes—which includes decreasing caseloads—and providing a well-rounded education—which is a more broad category around what we can do to improve academic achievement and close disparities among our student groups,” said McGaughy.
Community members are invited to share their input on potential investments for student success through Sunday, January 12.
