Corvallis Schools Will Start The Year Online

Students in the Corvallis School District will take classes remotely for the first six weeks of the school year.

Corvallis joins a growing number of districts across the state that will start the school year without students in classrooms due to concerns over the coronavirus. Superintendent Ryan Noss said during a board meeting Thursday evening that he wanted to give parents some degree of certainty about the start of the school year.

“That’s why I’m trying to be so conservative about giving lots of notice in making a decision and saying this is where we think we have to go, even though I know it stinks,” he said.

Noss said the district will re-evaluate the status of the closure during the fall but won’t return to in-person learning until it’s safe to do so.
