4J School District Provides Options for Students Returning to School

4jbuilding.jpg

The Eugene4J School District is offering three options for students in the fall in compliance with state education and health requirements. The board met Wednesday night to develop a plan for the upcoming school year.

The district sent out city-wide surveys to parents and educators for feedback on remote learning and to provide a chance to weigh in on how schools will be conducted.

Families can choose to continue with their same school online, a new curriculum through the Eugene Online Academy, or a hybrid system that returns their student to in-class learning when schools can make that transition.

"We are working on those details. We have until December 7th to iron them out,” said interrim Superintendent Cydney Vandercar. “But what we know is that it will allow some of our teachers who may not be able to come into the buildings to work from distance for the whole year. If a student wants to stay with their school, or their program, now they can do it for the whole year.”

Oregon districts must create a blueprint for schools that meet health and safety standards before they begin operating in-person.
