The Eugene 4J School District announced late Wednesday there will be no school for students Monday, October 18th. Spokesperson Kerry Delf says it’s because that’s the day all teachers, staff, volunteers and contractors are required to be fully vaccinated.
“There will be transition work needed that may include changing bus routes, perhaps consolidating programs," Delf told KLCC. "All of that takes a significant amount of attention and work, whether that is shifting staff from one location to another or shifting programs as well.”
Delf said they’re checking employees’ vaccination status and working through requests for exceptions. She said the district already had extreme staffing shortages for jobs including part-time and full-time bus drivers and aides. The new day off follows a Friday progress report day, making it a four-day weekend for middle and high school students.
