Messy And Cold Weather Expected For Eugene, Oregon Coast, And Cascades

Flickr.com's Oregon Dept. of Transportation

The Eugene, coastal, and Cascades regions will get cold, wet, and slippery…as a wintry mix is forecasted for the later half of the weekend.  KLCC’s Brian Bull reports.

National Weather Service hydrologist Andy Bryant says from Sunday night through Monday morning, there’s a chance of rain and snow for commuters traveling through the Willamette Valley.

Bryant says this stems from cooling temperatures and continued precipitation.

“Now through all of that we’ll be getting heavy snow both in the Cascades and also in the (Oregon) coast range," says Bryant.  "So anybody that’s traveling from Willamette valley over Santiam Pass or Willamette Pass is definitely going to want to be prepared for winter driving conditions.”

Drivers need to adjust for the weather, giving themselves more time to travel as well as being alert to limited visibility and slicker roads.  Bryant adds things will warm up Wednesday.

As for projected snowfall in the Cascades, he says up to a foot could pile up by Monday afternoon.
