As of Thursday morning, there were 75 active COVID-19 outbreaks that have contributed to more than 500 of Lane County’s total positive case count, according to Lane County Public Health.

Public health spokesperson Jason Davis said at Thursday press conference, officials are seeing more outbreaks involving people under the age of 31. And outbreaks associated with college students, make up around 38% of all outbreaks in the county.

Also on the rise, are outbreaks found in places of worship.

“The message is really for those faith leaders, and individuals who are practicing, to make sure that if you’re going to do that, and do that in a congregate setting, that you observe the distancing that we are asking you to observe,” Davis said. He added masks should also be worn anytime an individual interacts with someone outside their household.

Meanwhile, officials are seeing a decrease in the percentage of workplace spread with 19% of outbreaks occuring within the workplace.

And 19% of outbreaks have been associated with long-term care facilites.

"As we learn more about our outbreaks, as we recieve that assistance form the Oregon Health Authority, that will help us narrow our search and our strategies to be able to address that, and hopefully the next time we talk to you about these outbreaks we will be reporting some progress," Davis said.

Sporadic case counts, where there are no epidemiological links, remain high, Davis said.

There were 20 positive cases announced by Lane County Public Health bringing the total count in the county up to 2,242. 176 people are currently infectious, that’s a decrease of 28 people. There are now 14 individuals in the hospital, which is an increase of 4. The total suspected COVID-19 death count remains at 27.
