Less than a week after Lane County hit the milestone of 6,000 positive COVID-19 cases on Friday, the total has grown to 6,437 confirmed and presumptive cases.
Lane County Public Health said there were 102 new confirmed and presumptive cases as of Wednesday. Thirty-three people were hospitalized with the virus. Five of those were in intensive care. Public health also announced three new deaths on Wednesday.
At a press briefing Tuesday, County Health spokesperson Jason Davis said 23% of the positive cases in the county were among the Latino population—which is disproportionate to the population.
Davis urged the public to limit gatherings over the holidays and remain vigilant by masking, staying physically distant, and washing hands.
