Lane County Public Health officials announced they will hold two COVID-19 vaccination clinics this weekend. The mass vax opportunities are only for high-risk health care providers in a specific group.
Health officials said the clinics will happen because McKenzie Willamette Medical Center and Nova urgent care donated their surplus of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. This after Public Health received only 100 doses from the state this week.
Spokesperson Jason Davis said trained staff will administer 1,475 shots to people in Phase A groups 2 and 3.
“They are individuals who work in congregate settings--work with the unhoused,” said Davis. “So those are folks who serve some of our most vulnerable community members and are certainly, daily at risk of contracting COVID-19.”
Davis said the county has procured another ultra-low temperature freezer which enables greater storage of vaccine. He added they are ramping up to begin vaccinating educators and the 65 and older population.
Lane County Public Health has added a link to their 2019 Novel Coronavirus-COVID-19 page. Davis encourages residents to sign up for vaccine email updates. He said this will become a registry for new COVID-19 vaccination information as more groups come in line for shots, including the general population.
