Oregon AG: Why You Shouldn't Show Off Your Vaccination Card On Social Media

So you’ve gotten your first – maybe even second – vaccine shot against COVID-19, and want to show the world on social media. But authorities say not to post pics of your vaccination card.

The Oregon Attorney General’s Office says by posting your card, you could be inviting identity theft.  People’s full name, birthday, and time and location of your shots could be used by scammers to do a number of rotten things.  This includes discerning your social security number, or setting up fake accounts.

Hey, this sticker's pretty cool!  And it doesn't give out sensitive info.

People can use photo editing software or graphics apps to obscure such information, by blurring it or covering it up completely (see pic above.)  Or better yet -if you got a sticker showing you’ve just received a COVID-19 vaccine - to show that off in Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram instead.

The AG’s office encourages people to also take photos of their vaccination card for record-keeping, should the original be lost, damaged, or stolen.

But again, don’t post it online.
