Oregon is poised to begin administering the Pfizer vaccine to the youngest age group soon to be eligible, youth 12 to 15 years old. Lane County Public Health officials say some parents have already begun scheduling their kids for the shot.

Now that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has approved emergency use, Lane County Public Health officials await recommendations from the Western States Coalition and the Oregon Health Authority.

They expect approvals to come by the weekend.

Meanwhile, school age COVID-19 cases in Lane County are beginning to slow --however every school district in the county has reported at least one active case.

Eugene 4-J has seen 32 student cases in the last two weeks. Fern Ridge District has reported more than ten youth cases. Officials say the only age range seeing ‘double digit’ COVID cases is in 5 to 10 year olds in the Springfield School District.

Some Parents have already begun scheduling appointments for their 12 to 15 year olds at lanecounty.org/vaxclinics
