Cooling Centers in KLCC's Listening Area

With the extreme heat forecast in our region Thursday through Saturday, counties and cities have designated areas where the public can cool off. Here is a list for our listeners. It will be updated as we get more information.

 

Lane County

 

Eugene

The Downtown Library is a designated cooling site and is open 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 29, and 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday, July 30, and Saturday, July 31. Both Sheldon and Bethel branches are open 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Regular services are available.

Hilyard Community Center: is a designated cooling site and is open 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 29, and Friday, July 30. Due to ongoing programming, there is limited capacity in the lobby.

Community Centers are open for regular hours:

  • Amazon and Petersen Barn: 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday

  • Hilyard Community Center: 9:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday

  • Sheldon Community Center: 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. Monday-Friday

  • Campbell Community Center: 8:30 a.m - 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday

 

Springfield

Springfield City Hall (225 5th St.): 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Water misters and Springfield Utility Board's water bottle filling station are available below City Hall as well. 

Bob Keefer Center (250 S. 32nd St.): 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. Lobby is available for free drop-in use.

Willamalane Adult Activity Center (215 W. C St.): 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. Lobby is available for free drop-in use.

Cottage Grove

City Hall Lobby (400 Main St.) 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Thursday-Friday

Veneta

Rachael McDonald is KLCC’s host for All Things Considered on weekday afternoons. She also is the editor of the KLCC Extra, the daily digital newspaper. Rachael has a BA in English from the University of Oregon. She started out in public radio as a newsroom volunteer at KLCC in 2000.
