Democrats from all over the state of Oregon are coming to Eugene Saturday. They're having a day-long meeting and evening reception with US Representative Peter DeFazio. This, just a few days before former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee comes to town.
The majority of Lane County voters are registered Democrats. The tightest races here are non-partisan-- three seats on the Lane County Board of Commissioners are up for re-election. Mike Huckabee's fundraiser is expected to benefit incumbent Jay Bozievich, who holds position 1 on the board.
Lane County Democratic Party Vice-Chair Chris Wig says Democrats are not worried.
Wig: "I think that our County Commission races are hotly contested and that we're going to have some action in that area. But I really don't see Mike Huckabee moving the needle in terms of drumming up statewide votes for Republicans."
Mike Huckabee's appearance is a fundraiser put on by Healthy Communities Initiative, a political action committee. The plate prices for the fundraiser range from $150 to $5-thousand. The Democratic Party's dinner with Congressman DeFazio is 40 bucks a plate.
