The Eugene City Council is expected to decide the fate of the shuttered, 50-year-old city hall this week. The council voted earlier this month to postpone the demolition of city hall for two weeks to have another debate about the building's future.
City spokeswoman Jan Bohman says councilors will hear from the design team at their Monday evening meeting.
Bohman: "I think it will be a more in-depth, technical conversation than the council has had and then on Wednesday we'll also go through some of the decision-making process and then the council will have the opportunity to have their discussion to clarify the current direction."
The council is expected to decide Wednesday whether to proceed with the project to demolish and construct a new building, or to renovate it.
Current plans call for an energy-efficient, three- or four-story building of about 25,000- to 30,000-square feet. But a number of community members say the city should renovate its existing city hall which was built in the 1960s and is not earthquake safe.
