Oregon Governor Kate Brown has announced state funding awards for 13 affordable housing developments. They will include a Eugene project for ex offenders looking to make a new start.
Oaks at 14th will offer 54 units on oak patch rd in west Eugene. The one bedroom apartments will provide permanent, affordable housing to ex offenders who have been successful in transitional housing facilities. Steve Ochs is with the Lane County Housing Agency, which will oversee the development:
Steve Ochs: “What they’re finding is they get all these people out of prison that there very successful in finding jobs for and, you know, getting a good start for but then they’re having a really hard time finding them housing that’s decent and affordable.”
All of the housing projects in the statewide funding effort are aimed at low income groups, including the elderly and veterans. Award recipients include existing and proposed facilities in Benton, Douglas and Deschutes counties. Oaks at 14th in Eugene is scheduled to be open in early to mid 2017.
